Massachusetts sober houses are certified by the Massachusetts Alliance for Sober Housing, or MASH. Project NORTH (Navigation, Outreach, Recovery, Treatment, and Hope) assists court users and loved ones impacted by substance use by providing access to Recovery Support Navigation, transportation, and certified sober housing. Through the Center for Community Recovery Innovations (CCRI), MassHousing provides grants to promote the creation and preservation of affordable housing for individuals in recovery and their families. What is Recovery Support Navigation?

As such, the administration will be phasing out shelters in hotels and motels throughout fiscal year 2025 and 2026 and shifting to a more cost-effective and supportive portfolio. MassHousing (The Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency) is an independent, quasi-public agency created in 1966 and charged with providing financing for affordable housing in Massachusetts. The Agency raises capital by selling bonds and lends the proceeds to low- and moderate-income homebuyers and homeowners, and to developers who build or preserve affordable and/or mixed-income rental housing.

This proposal anticipates using reserve funding Oxford House to cover these costs, rather than impacting programs that are paid for in the annual budget. Recovery Support Navigation services are available to court users involved with any court department. Court users and their loved ones do not need to have an open case or be on probation to access Recovery Support Navigation services. Resident and staff orientations include how to greet and interact with neighbors and/or concerned parties. Residents are linked to mutual aid, recovery activities and recovery advocacy opportunities.

These standards ensure that sober homes provide safe, structured, and supportive environments crucial for long-term recovery. Massachusetts offers many sober living homes and recovery residences for those in recovery from addiction. The third version of the NARR standards provides more explicit guidance to providers, including metrics for evaluating the peer support components of a residence’s recovery environment.
